Galerie Espace, Montreal, 2007
For this project I asked 9 Montreal-based visual artists to make a portrait of me in their medium. I had recently moved back to Montreal after living in NYC for 2 years and wanted to reconnect with my artistic roots by being immersed in the lives, studios and homes of the artists around me. During 3 months I posed, sat and performed for the 9 artists. I was interested in exploring the collaborative nature of the portrait because I believe that the artist behind the brush, the camera or the tools used to sculpt is as present in the portrait as the subject is. This project also allowed me to focus on process rather than on a final product, which is a reoccuring challenge in my art practice. The photographs, paintings and sculpture were exhibited for two weeks at Galerie Espace in Montreal (February 2007) during which time I greeted visitors and shared my experience of the process.
